Feiyu Theater – The Station

Besides A Cappella, another club I joined at Stanford is the Chinese theater club. While we perform plays and skits throughout the year, every spring we tend to give the largest production. Like the case of A Cappella concert, this was the second spring play given by the club, and was my first after I joined.

The play was called The Station, and it was about an hour long. It was originally written in 1980s by Gao Xingjian (高行健), a Chinese French playwright and a Nobel Literature laureate. We made minimal adaptation to the script and tried to present the play as close to the original ideas of the playwright as possible. This was almost a four-month endeavor, and especially the last week before the performance was absolutely crazy, as we basically had to rehearse 4 hours everyday.

What was my part in this endeavor? Well, several things. First I played a role in the play, who was an educated person trying to get into college. Then I designed the program which was handed to the audience before the play that included introduction to the play and our club. Finally after the play I spent an entire week editing the recording into the video you see here. Interestingly, the club has not officially released this video yet because of some half-copyright-half-advertising reasons.
